![]() Creativity has been my life. From a very early age I was drawing and painting on any scrap of paper that I could get my hands on. One of my earliest memories as a child was receiving a blackboard and easel for Christmas. I found out, much later, that my father had lovingly hand made this Christmas present for me. |
Every Christmas after that, I would find two packs of chalk in my stocking hanging at the end of my bed. I would create all sorts of wonderful images on every inch of that blackboard using the white and coloured chalks. Such special memories. Janice |

On completing three years training in Graphic Design, Janice began her career working in advertising and design studios in the London area. Her work involved Company Logo design and Pen and Ink Illustration, mostly for newspaper advertising. |
She has always painted in watercolour and illustrated in Pen and Ink outside her work environment. A keen interest in photography enabled her to record subject ideas, which also helped to increase her creative flow. |
With a love of the countryside, its rolling landscapes and the fauna and flora, it was inevitable that these would be the topics of most of her work. |
In 1986, Janice and her husband moved to Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. A county they had fallen in love with after spending many happy holidays in the Dales. Continuing with graphic design on a freelance basis gave her time to develop and explore other mediums. She embarked on painting ceramics using an onglaze pigment that was fired in a kiln. This led to her exhibiting around the country at various Art and Craft venues showcasing her Ceramic Paintings and Designs, together with Pen and Ink Drawings and Watercolours. |
Recently, Janice has worked in Oil and Acrylic using more vibrant colour and painting mostly on Box Canvas. |
The subjects are varied, with Yorkshire being inspirational and creating a relaxed environment in which to work. Scotland and The Lake District are just some of the other influential places she visits to acquire and develop ideas. |
Janice will take commissions, especially for works which need to be colour co-ordinated to interior design. |
